A gentleman with distinct ideas. Humorous and knowledgeable, even-tempered and resolute. At the beginning of Sir Roger Norrington’s career, no-one could have predicted that his name would one day become so deeply anchored in the world of western classical music. Yet with his own ensembles he has achieved exactly that which the great orchestras of the world have achieved. A conductor is like a chef, admits Norrington, he does not make the ingredients but with his detailed knowledge of the basic rules, he ensures optimal preparation. It is therefore his ultimate goal to give an orchestra joy and self-confidence. In a nutshell: the name Norrington stands for serious cheerfulness. For many years, The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen has had the pleasure of welcoming this British conductor as a guest performer. Although Norrington has reduced the number of annual performances, Bremen is still a very firm fixture in his diary. Welcome back, Sir Roger!
