Wooah Kim was born in Seoul, South Korea, in 1999. She earned her Bachelor’s degree from Seoul National University and is currently enrolled on the Master’s programme at Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media (HMTMH). She also holds a scholarship from the Yehudi Menuhin Foundation. While still studying in South Korea, she already won numerous first prizes in competitions.
Wooah Kim performed a solo recital at the Kumho Young Artist Concert Series and also made a concert appearance with the Busan Philharmonic Orchestra. She has also given guest performances with the Tongyeong Festival Orchestra, the Gyeonggi Philharmonic Orchestra, the Gangnam Symphony Orchestra, the Gwangju Philharmonic Orchestra, the Hwaum Chamber Orchestra and the Korean Chamber Orchestra, amongst others, and appeared at festivals such as the Jeonju International Chamber Music Festival, the Seocho Chamber Music Festival and the Verbier Festival. In addition to her position as an academist with The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, the bassoonist is also a member of the Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra, the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie, the TIMF Ensemble Seoul, as well as a solo bassoonist with the Ditto Orchestra, the Seoul Youth Orchestra and the Orchestra Ensemble Seoul.
