Cristian Lupeș is one of today’s most surprising and non-conformist conductors. Not only does he impress with his very personal interpretations and courageous choice of repertoire, as a cultural manager he is also known in his consistently innovative role as creator of new cultural projects.

Born in the Romanian town of Onești, he first studied orchestral conducting in Bucharest, continuing his studies in Vienna. In 2010, he became Assistant Conductor to Jonathan Nott with the Bamberg Symphoniker. He has also worked with the Tonhalle Orchester Zürich, the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, the Rundfunk Sinfonie Orchester Berlin, the Concertgebouw Orchestra and the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne, where he has acted as assistant to conductors such as Zubin Mehta, David Zinman, Bernard Haitink, Mariss Jansons and Herbert Blomstedt.

Alongside his regular collaborations with numerous international orchestras, Cristian Lupeș also creates multi-media shows with well-known artists such as Elisabeth Leonskaja, Michael Barenboim, Marcel Iureș, Vlad Zografi and Grigore Leșe. He has been conductor of the Staatsphilharmonie Sibiu since 2019 and with his vision, this unusual conductor has brought about an exciting and positive change in the institution that no-one would have previously thought possible. For his achievements, State President Klaus Iohannis awarded Cristian Lupeș the Romanian Medal of Honour for Culture in January 2021.

ジュリアン・リベール

Born in 1987 near Brussels, Belgium, Julien Libeer’s earliest musical memory was the famous documentary on the recording of West Side Story by Leonard Bernstein. The piano, which he took up at age six, quickly became the faithful companion for expressing a love of music that, until today, thrives as much on opera, orchestra and chamber music as on the piano repertoire. His first five years study were with Jean Fassina and he then continued them with Daniel Blumenthal (Royal Conservatory of Brussels) and Maria Joao Pires (Queen Elizabeth Music Chapel).

Julien has performed at many prestigious concert halls across the globe including Palais des Beaux-Arts and Flagey in Brussels, Théâtre de la Ville Paris, Barbican Hall London, Auditorio Nacional Madrid, Palau de la Musica Barcelona, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Sumida Tryphony Hall Tokyo and festivals including the Beirut Chants Festival and Miami International Piano Festival. Orchestras he has worked with include the Brussels Philharmonic, Belgian National Orchestra, deFilharmonie, Sinfonia Varsovia and the New Japan Philharmonic among others, under conductors such as Michel Tabachnik, Augustin Dumay, George Pehlevanian, Joshua Weilerstein, Enrique Mazzola and Christopher Warren-Green. Julien is also an accomplished chamber musician and works on regular basis with Augustin Dumay, Camille Thomas, Frank Braley, Maria João Pires and Lorenzo Gatto, with whom he will perform the complete Beethoven violin sonatas over the next few seasons. He is also an associate artist of the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel, where he also specialises in chamber music with the members of the Artemis Quartet.

There is no doubt that this violin virtuoso, with her »transparent silver tone«, is one of the leading violinists of our time. At the age of just three, Arabella Steinbacher began learning the instrument and from the age of nine was a pupil of the renowned professor Ana Chumachenco at Munich College of Music and Drama.

Today, Arabella Steinbacher performs on the international stage with orchestras such as the New York Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the London Symphony Orchestra. She has performed to great acclaim with the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra, the Gewandhaus Orchestra, the Orchestre National de France and the Vienna Symphoniker. She has also worked with conductors such as Kent Nagano, Zubin Mehta, Marek Janowski, Fabio Luisi or Christoph Eschenbach.

Alongside the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen’s return, this season’s highlights also include concerts with the Philharmonie Orchestra, the Mozarteum Orchestra, the Dresdner Philharmoniker, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg as well as the Deutsche Radio Philharmonie Saarbrücken on tour. Arabella Steinbacher plays a 1718 Stradivarius violin from Cremona, the one known as ›ex Benno Walter‹, which is on generous loan from a private Swiss foundation.
