ザーラ・クリスティアンとの夕べ
第3回ハンザⅡ定期公演
ブリテン、バルトーク、ベートーヴェンの作品
Sarah Christian, the long-time concertmaster of The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, takes the stage in this concert not only as musical director and soloist but also as the mind behind the programme and the underlying concept: composers in transition. True to one of the orchestra’s trademarks, the performance is given without a conductor. Benjamin Britten’s ‘Simple Symphony’, written at age 20 and dedicated to his viola teacher, draws on melodies composed during his teenage years as well as on traditional Lieder. The second movement is entirely in pizzicato, evoking a mandolin orchestra. In stark contrast to this cheerful work by a young composer, Bartók’s Divertimento, his last work before fleeing Hungary as Europe teetered on the brink of war, blends the joie de vivre of folk music with an undercurrent of impending doom. Beethoven’s iconic ‘Kreutzer’ Sonata, which was originally written for violin and piano and expanded the scope of chamber music, is presented here in a version for solo violin and strings that fully embraces its symphonic weight.
