Born into a family of musicians and a dynasty of violinists, Roby Lakatos came into contact with music at an early age. He received a classical education at the Béla Bartók Conservatory in Budapest. This Hungarian violinist is internationally regarded as one of the most versatile players in his field, the »Devils’s own violinist« and a gifted improviser. Roby Lakatos usually performs with his ensemble, which also consists of outstanding string instrumentalists, pianists and cymbalists – all classically trained virtuoso musicians who are equally adept at jazz and the Hungarian folk tradition.
Laszlo Boni, second violin, studied with Roby Lakatos‘ father and has already played in his orchestra. Jeno Lisztes was born in Budapest in 1986 and is the grandson of a famous cimbalom player. He was taught classical cimbalom playing by Agnes Szekely from the age of four. Vilmos Csikos also comes from a family of musicians and came into contact with a wide variety of musical styles as a child. Guitarist Gábor Ladányi, born in 1993, has been a member of the Roby Lakatos Ensemble since 2020. Double bassist and pianist Robert Szakcsi, a member of the Lakatos Ensemble since 2019, won first prize in the solo piano competition at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 2000.
