Edward Gardner is Principal Conductor of the London Philharmonic Orchestra and Music Director of the Norwegian Opera and the Norwegian Ballet. He is also Conductor Emeritus of the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, having served as its Principal Conductor from 2015 to 2024. Edward Gardner is also in high demand as a guest conductor with leading orchestras worldwide, including the New York Philharmonic, the Philadelphia and Cleveland Orchestras, the Staatskapelle Berlin and the Wiener Symphoniker. This season, he returns to several orchestras in the USA including the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra, the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington and the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. He will also be making his debut with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.
In Europe this season, in addition to the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, he will be conducting the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin, the WDR Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester, the Danish National Orchestra and the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, amongst others. In Tokyo, he will make his debut with the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra. In the UK, this conductor enjoys a long-standing collaboration with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, where he served as Principal Guest Conductor from 2010 to 2016, as well as with the BBC Symphony Orchestra which he conducted on both the opening and closing nights of the BBC Proms. As an acclaimed opera conductor, Edward Gardner was invited back to the Royal Opera House in spring 2025. As a passionate champion of young talent, he founded the Hallé Youth Orchestra in 2002 and regularly conducts the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain.
