ピアノ

ダヴィッド・フレイ

The French pianist David Fray is acclaimed as one of the shooting stars of the younger generation. Spiegel Online praised his ›singing, playful, yet nevertheless expressively grand piano style‹.

Born in 1981 in the Pyrenees, David Fray discovered his love of Bach’s Passions and piano works at a young age. In 2008 he received an ECHO Award for his Bach/Boulez-CD. This was followed in 2009 by an ECHO Klassik as Instrumentalist of the Year. The following year his accomplishments were recognized with the prestigious French music award ›Les Victoires de la musique classique‹ in the same category.

Mr Fray has a particular affinity with the great German composers, and has already released three albums with works by Bach. For his second recording, featuring Bach piano concertos, he directed The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie from the piano. In his intensive study of German composers, the young pianist now brings his unique sensibilities to Schubert.

Because of his passion for Bach and certain parallels in mannerisms, David Fray is often compared to Glenn Gould. The pianist himself, however, describes Wilhelm Kempff as an especially important influence, whose ›perfect combination of structured thinking and pure poetry‹ impresses him.
