Born in 1988, the conductor Jonathan Bloxham is an unusually versatile artist, whose »innate musicality« is held in high esteem, not only by his teacher Paavo Järvi. In addition to his »deep knowledge and understanding of the symphonic repertoire« (Paavo Järvi) Bloxham is also passionate about Contemporary Music. This young British musician started his career as a cellist. As a celebrated and award-winning instrumentalist, he gave his concerto debut in 2012 in the Berlin Philharmonie. Also in his role as conductor, he has worked with many renowned ensembles, most recently the City Chamber Orchestra in Hong Kong, the Malaysian Philharmonic, the RTE Concert Orchestra, the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and as Cover Conductor with the New York Philharmonic. Up until 2018, Bloxham was Assistant Conductor of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. In addition, he is Founder and Artistic Director of the Northern Chords Festival.
Bloxham, who studied with Sian Edwards and Nicolas Pasquet, will be spending the 2019 summer season as Assistant Conductor at Glyndebourne. In addition, he has a series of engagements with the China National Philharmonic Orchestra in Beijing, the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra and the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra. Bloxham is also a founding member of the Busch Trio, with whom he performed up until 2015 and won several prizes. He continues his involvement in chamber music and performs regularly with many renowned musicians, has given a number of performances in London’s Wigmore Hall and has appeared on BBC Radio 3 several times. Many Bremen concertgoers remember Bloxham for his inspiring debut at the 2018 ›Summer in Lesmona‹ festival.
