Strings with a new shine
4th First Night Subscription Concert
Works by Mendelssohn Bartholdy, Hosokawa, von Webern and Beethoven
He has raised his instrument to new glory, brushed away the clichés and re-established the harp as a concert nstrument in its own right. »It should sound like an orchestra, transparent, colourful, honorous.« French musician Xavier de Maistre gave up his position with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra in order to dedicate himself to a solo career as a harpist! What was initially accompanied by the anxious raising of eyebrows has long turned out to be an international success story, the more so as de Maistre’s repertoire gushes as furiously as a waterfall. He accompanies well-known singers at Lieder recitals, focuses on rediscovering long-forgotten compositions; he plays arrangements, for example of Mozart or Haydn piano concertos, and also devotes himself to Contemporary Music. One such example is the harp concerto by Japanese composer Toshio Hosokawa, which was performed for the first time in 2014 and in the upcoming reason can be heard in Bremen. Xavier de Maistre and conductor Alexandre Bloch are both making their debut with The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen.
