›All nine‹ at the Musikfest Bremen

Homecoming for »Bremen's Beethoven«

The complete cycle of all nine symphonies written by the composer Ludwig van Beethoven, who was born in Bonn in 1770, to this day indisputably represents a unique cosmos, a sonorous world heritage that in the upcoming Beethoven anniversary year can now be experienced in Bremen – played by The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen conducted by Paavo Järvi, who, with their groundbreaking interpretations, have engendered nothing short of a »Beethoven rebellion« (›Stereoplay‹). Tickets for this outstanding event, to be performed in Bremen’s Die Glocke over four consecutive days in November 2020, are available exclusively from Musikfest Bremen! Advance ticket sales for the entire cycle start on 9 December. Tickets for the individual concerts – where still available – can be purchased from 9 January 2020, 10 a.m.

Concert with the Federal President is a great success

Beethoven year launched at Schloss Bellevue

On 17 December, The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen marked the start of the Beethoven anniversary year with a concert at Schloss Bellevue in Berlin. The invitation came from Germany’s Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his wife Elke Büdenbender. During the promenade concert, guests were treated to a varied medley of the composer’s works with a new twist. Under the direction of Paavo Järvi, the orchestra opened the anniversary year with the last movement of Beethoven’s 1st Symphony. Together with renowned jazz pianist Iiro Rantala, the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie enthralled the audience with a grandiose performance of familiar Beethoven pieces – spiced with jazz improvisations and tango rhythms.

The Future Lab, an initiative of the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie in cooperation with the Bremen East Comprehensive School, also had a hand in the planning of the concert in Bellevue. Together with their teachers and the members of the orchestra, the pupils took Beethoven’s works to new heights with their very own recompositions and live electronics under the title ›Beethoven Beats‹!

In his address, the Federal President honoured The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen’s commitment and outstanding authority on all things Beethoven. He also underscored the unique complexity of Beethoven’s genius. Works like Beethoven’s symphonies possessed the power »to capture the souls and hearts of many in a shared experience«.

Obituary

Prof Dr Christian Scholz

News of the totally unexpected passing of our long-time advisor Prof Dr Christian Scholz shocked us profoundly. The void he leaves fills us with great sorrow.

Not only was he a valuable advisor on all matters relating to organizational development and a critical supporter of the management structure of The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen – for which there was no precedent – he was also the invaluable counterpart in the discovery of the 5-seconds model. In numerous management seminars, we explained the holistic management principles to companies around the globe and in many cases supported their implementation in the corporate world.

Christian Scholz’s musical home was perhaps more with the Doors and the Smashing Pumpkins, but over time he increasingly learned to appreciate the world of classical music. We shared many outstanding concert events together, whether in Bremen, the Salzburg Festival or the PROMS.

We will miss him in every conceivable way and our thoughts are with his family, to whom we wish much strength in this difficult time.

Guesting at the Proms

In September, The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen gave a guest performance at the legendary BBC Proms in the Royal Albert Hall! The performance, under Greek conductor Constantinos Carydis and featuring Greek soprano Danae Kontora, not only received enthusiastic praise and rapturous applause from the audience – ›the Prommers‹ – ; the magazine ›Opera today‹ described the concert as »a Michelin-starred feast for musical gourmands«. Here, we serve you a few visual highlights from London!

Kurier, Vienna
