Works by Ravel, Pintscher and Schumann

For Matthias Pintscher, composing and conducting are complementary aspects of his artistic life. Experiencing the composer as a conductor is always a special experience. Having been closely associated with the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie for many years, he is now reuniting the orchestra with the star Leila Josefowicz in one of his latest works. During the coronavirus pandemic, Pintscher wrote ›La linea evocativa‹ an »Infinite Melody« for solo violin for this Canadian violinist about the overwhelming experience of the fragility of our lives. In 2022, he expanded this into his violin concerto ›Assonanza‹. The result is a stirring dialogue between resignation and rebellion, luminous virtuosity and silence, framed by two contrasting works: Ravel’s finely nuanced fairytale ›Ma Mere l’Oye‹ and Schumann’s marvellous 1st Symphony, written »in that springtime urge that probably travels with man into his old age and overtakes him anew every year«.

Programme

    • Maurice Ravel (1875–1937)
    • ›Ma Mère l’Oye‹
    • Matthias Pintscher (*1971)
    • Concerto for violin and orchestra ›Assonanza‹
    • Robert Schumann (1810–1856)
    • Symphony no. 1 in B major op. 38 ›Frühlingssinfonie‹
