Works by Stravinsky, Beethoven and Schumann
Beethoven’s 2nd Piano Concerto is actually his first. It was composed in Bonn as early as 1790 and was one of the works with which Beethoven not only caused a sensation as a pianist in Vienna after 1800, but also characterised the avant-garde as a composer that set standards for later generations. With Martin Helmchen, whose playing impresses with an extraordinary sensitivity of sound, this concert is in the best of hands. Schumann also struggled throughout his life for renewal and new beginnings. At first glance, his 4th Symphony fulfils the classical structures, but what takes place within them is unique: a new freedom emerges from an imaginative treatment of the motivic material. Stravinsky’s neoclassical works show just how much the music of the past can be an inspiration for the present. One of the most refined is the Concerto ›Dumbarton Oaks‹, a reflection of Bach in Stravinsky’s music. Anja Bihlmaier, a conductor whose work combines passion and precision in the most beautiful way, makes her debut with the Kammerphilharmonie.
