New flexibility
1st Hansa Subscription II Concert
Works by Mozart and Haydn
Can it ever work? The man who embraces Early Music and the pianist with a love of the Romantic? Of course it can work! The pair have guested with The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie on a number of previous occasions, most recently in autumn 2015. 20 years ago, such a meeting of minds would have been questionable. But in the meantime, the doyens of historically informed performance such as Ton Koopman, Sir John Eliot Gardiner or also Trevor Pinnock long since feel at home directing orchestras that play on modern instruments. At the same time, many soloists are demonstrating greater flexibility. Maria Joao Pires, for instance, has also played on historical grand pianos, for example Beethoven on one of the French Érard grand pianos. Pinnock on the other hand has remained faithful to his Baroque and Classical roots to this day, although he has in the meantime advanced to the music of Gustav Mahler. For their current programme in Bremen, the conductor and pianist are staying classical, with works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Joseph Haydn.
