Works by Schubert, Ruzicka and Mahler
From Harmonie for Mozart’s operas, piano transcriptions of Schubert Lieder and Wagner operas – the field for musical arrangements seems immeasurable. And yet there is still scope for new discoveries. Franz Schubert actually composed his wonderful F minor Fantasia for Piano Four-Hands. In the original as well as in Rolf Liebermann’s careful orchestration, it is a pearl of the repertoire. Fallen slightly into oblivion are the arrangements composed for Arnold Schönberg’s ›Society for Private Musical Performances‹, including Mahler’s Fourth Symphony arranged by Erwin Stein for a small chamber orchestra. It takes discoverers like Peter Ruzicka to restore them to the catalogue of lost treasures and present them to the public. The programme also features his latest work ›Mnemosyne‹.
