Extreme? No, thank you. Says Hilary Hahn. »I don’t have to live excessively in order to push the boundaries musically.« Hahn is a master in unspectacular nuance. Not for her grand gestures or glamour effects on the strings. Perhaps because she is deeply interested in the great violinists of the past generations: Heifetz, Milstein, Kreisler, Grumiaux, Szeryng. Hilary Hahn was just ten years of age when she migrated to Philadelphia to study at the Curtis Institute, America’s elite school of classical music. Here, legendary violin instructor Jascha Brodsky, himself a pupil of Eugène Ysaÿe, became an influential figure in her life. In her guest performances in Bremen, Hilary Hahn will play Vieuxtemps’ Fourth Violin Concerto, and Paavo Järvi will dedicate himself to a late Haydn symphony. With ›Summa‹ by Arvo Pärt, Paavo Järvi is also introducing at this concert a series of performances by Estonian composers. In future, each of his Bremen concerts will feature a composition by one of his compatriots.
