Finnish vitality
2nd Hansa Subscription II Concert
Works by Nordheim, Ives, Britten and Haydn
For the first time, The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen is awarding the title of ›Artistic Best Friend‹. And the winner is: Finnish violinist Pekka Kuusisto, who has enjoyed a very special relationship with the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie since their first collaboration in 2002. Like the members of the orchestra, he is a dedicated musician who aspires to get to the very heart of every piece he plays. Diversity is also important to him – Kuusisto is equally at home in a variety of styles, including Finnish folk music and jazz. For the first concert in his new role as ›Artistic Best Friend‹ he effortlessly travels – back in time – through the centuries: from a virtuoso violin solo composed by Norwegian Arne Nordheim in 1986, and the modern classic ›Unanswered Question‹ by Charles Ives, to Joseph Haydn’s lively symphony ›Drumroll‹. The two-year collaboration as ›Artistic Best Friend‹ focuses on works by Benjamin Britten. The Serenade for Tenor, Horn and Strings marks the start.
