Existential and euphoric
8th First Night Subscription Concert
Works by Pärt, Beethoven and Brahms
»Whenever it’s a question of breathing new life into a repertoire piece, there’s a simple solution: just get Janine Jansen to play it«, the British ›Times‹ once euphorically enthused – a quality that links the Dutch violinist with The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen. When they recorded the Beethoven Concerto together in 2009, the trade press rejoiced: »She plays as if her life depended on it. She charges the solo part, highly concentrated, euphoric, as if she were discovering the piece all over again.« And: »There is a stirring emotional tension and one can sense that this music radiates something existential.« Now the violinist returns to the River Weser with this piece – and once again Paavo Järvi partners her at the conductor’s rostrum. After their previous Beethoven and Schumann explorations, the next major symphonic project is already fully under way: at this evening performance, Paavo Järvi and his musicians will present their interpretation of Johannes Brahms’ momentous Fourth Symphony.
