›europiano‹

Ludwig van Beethoven: Piano Concert No. 5

On June 21, the traditional ›Fête de la Musique‹ will once again be celebrated on the streets, squares, and stages of France. Everyone who plays an instrument — from amateurs to internationally acclaimed music stars — is invited to perform publicly and free of charge on the day of the summer solstice. The idea originated more than 40 years ago, and today the Fête de la Musique is celebrated in many other countries as well.

With the project ›europiano‹, the Franco-German television channel ARTE expands on this idea by presenting outstanding piano concerts at iconic locations across Europe, performed by exceptional soloists and orchestras. The highlight of the day — and the only live concert — is the performance by the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, taking place outdoors against the breathtaking backdrop of the Acropolis in Athens.

From the evening’s program, Ludwig van Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 5 will be broadcast live on ARTE.tv, performed by the orchestra under the direction of Greek conductor Constantinos Carydis, with Lukas Sternath at the piano.
