›Cosí fan tutte‹ – harmony music

Mozart’s ›Cosí fan tutte‹ with a difference: dispensing with the vocals, it instead showcases the diverse possibilities of comic expression offered by the traditional Japanese comedy theatre, Kyôgen, musically accompanied by the Wind Soloists of The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen. This is not the first time the Bremen musicians and the actors from Kyoto have collaborated on an exciting cross-over project. Together with the renowned Japanese Shigeyama Ensemble, our Wind Soloists previously staged a very special production of Mozart’s ›Magic Flute‹ in 2011.

The emergence of the Japanese Kyôgen theatre tradition dates back to the 14th century. Originally a dialogue art form, influences from other artistic disciplines have more recently provided new stimuli. The Shigeyama Ensemble is one of the most renowned in Japan, with a 400-year history and its own school. Since 2002, the Wind Soloists of The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen and the Shigeyama family have enjoyed a creative partnership that was even nominated for the Japanese Order of Culture. Following the enormous success of the ›Magic Flute‹, the renewed West meets Far East cultural collaboration promises to be a fascinating encounter.
