Zuzana Schmitz-Kulanova

Violin

Zuzana Schmitz-Kulanova was born in the Slovak Republic. She discovered her love of orchestral playing while she was still at school and this was her primary reason for studying the violin. She studied with Igor Karsko at Lucerne Music College, where she was awarded full honours for her soloist diploma, and continued her studies with Professor Vesselin Paraschkevov at the Essen Folkwang University. During this time, she was not only an Academy student with the Essen Philharmonic but later became concertmaster of the Folkwang Chamber Orchestra Essen, where she directed numerous projects from the violin.

Chamber music has also played an increasingly important role; she co-founded the Ensemble Ruhr, has regularly performed chamber music in varied constellations. As a soloist, Zuzana Schmitz-Kulanova has also performed frequently with the Folkwang Chamber Orchestra as well as with the Košice State Philharmonic and the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra.

She is not only a member but also concertmaster of The Cologne Chamber Orchestra and a very welcome guest performer with a number of further orchestras including the WDR Symphony Orchestra Cologne. She has been a violinist with The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen since 2018.

In addition to her love of music and her three children, Zuzana Schmitz-Kulanova enjoys spending time in her garden, sewing gifts for family and friends and walking in the mountains.
