In memory of

Luise Scherf

It is with deep sadness that we bid farewell to Luise Scherf. For nearly two decades, she served on the board of the Society of Friends of The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen and maintained close ties with the orchestra. A qualified music teacher, she was passionate about the musical education of children and young people, believing it to be invaluable. We will greatly miss her and remain profoundly grateful for the many years we were fortunate to have her by our side.

Special honour

Senate Medal for Paavo Järvi

»Paavo Järvi and The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen have earned our city a place on the global musical map,« said Bremen’s mayor and senator for culture Andreas Bovenschulte on presenting the Senate Medal for Art and Science to Paavo Järvi.

Paavo Järvi has been Artistic Director of The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen since 2004. At a presentation ceremony held at Bremen City Hall at the end of November 2024, the Estonian conductor was awarded this special distinction for his services to the orchestra and Bremen’s cultural sector during his two-decade tenure.

Named ›Orchestra of the Year‹ for the second time

Opus Klassik for the dream team

Following their recognition as ›Orchestra of the Year‹ by Gramophone, Europe’s most prestigious classical music magazine, in London in 2023, where they surpassed renowned orchestras like the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestre de Paris and the Berlin Philharmonic, The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen and its Artistic Director Paavo Järvi have been awarded the Opus Klassik. The Kammerphilharmonie and its principal conductor were honoured once more as ›Orchestra of the Year‹ for their renditions of Haydn’s London Symphonies Nos. 101 and 103 at the Opus Klassik Gala in Berlin on 13th October 2024. It’s a splendid affirmation of the collaborative efforts between the orchestra and the renowned conductor, who have previously made their mark with their cycles of Beethoven, Schumann and Brahms. This is the 11th OPUS Klassik award, including its precursor, the ECHO Classic, for The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen.

Joyful tour

The profound sense of mutual joy during the Asia tour showcasing works by Mozart was tangible: in Japan and South Korea The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen under the baton of Principal Conductor Paavo Järvi elicited rapturous ovations from the audience – and the outstanding hospitality of the hosts deep gratitude from the orchestra. The musical adventure kicked off together with pianist Rafał Blechacz in the city of Kumamoto, Japan, on 7th December 2024, followed by a performance in the Minato Mirai Hall in Yokohama – a special venue for our musicians, who performed the very first Beethoven Cycle here in 2006. The tour continued to Tokyo, where the orchestra performed with violinist Daishin Kashimoto, before being joined by rising Spanish violin star María Dueñas for further exhilarating concerts up and down the country. After eight concerts in six major Japanese cities, the orchestra and conductor travelled on to South Korea, more precisely to Incheon, Seoul and Daejeon, where together with the 20-year-young pianist Yunchan Lim they celebrated an unforgettable debut and tour finale to enthusiastic shouts of ›bravo‹.
