Tomohiro Arita

Viola

Tomohiro Arita comes from Osaka in Japan. He learned to play the violin at an early age and discovered the viola at 15. He completed his bachelor’s degree at one of Japan’s top music colleges – the Tokyo University of the Arts. A master’s degree at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin followed. During his studies he gained professional orchestral experience with the NHK Symphony Orchestra in Tokyo. In 2014 Tomohiro Arita reached the final round of the Cecil Aronowitz International Viola Competition in Birmingham. Further to this, he has appeared as a soloist with the Geidai Philharmonia and the Birmingham Conservatoire String Orchestra and has played at various festivals including the famous Swiss Verbier Festival and the Le Pont Music Festival in Japan.

As a graduate of the Academy, Tomohiro Arita today plays with various ensembles and orchestras, and he continues to be closely associated as a regular guest performer with The Deutsche Kammer­philharmonie Bremen. Since 2019 he has been performing together with Leander Kippenberg in the jointly founded NEOS Ensemble.
