Mozart: The Magic Flute
Musikfest Bremen
Tarmo Peltokoski has had a passion for Mozart ever since he first saw his ›The Magic Flute‹ at the age of 11. Leading The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, the young Finnish conductor now promises a thrilling performance of this opera with a hand-picked cast of soloists – led by Elsa Dreisig, Mauro Peter and Kathryn Lewek – that is guaranteed to blow all dust off the score!
Composed in feverish haste in 1791, just a few weeks before his death, ›The Magic Flute‹ is Mozart’s multifaceted testament, an unusual blend of opera, singspiel, mystical magical world and philosophical drama of ideas. For more than two centuries, this fairytale opera has enchanted audiences with its diversity. The plot tells of the young prince Tamino, who has fallen in love with a portrait of the beautiful Pamina. Assisted by the garrulous birdcatcher Papageno, he sets forth to find her and becomes embroiled in the power struggle between the mysterious Queen of the Night and the venerable Sarastro…
With music of exceptional brilliance and poetry that counts among the most beautiful Mozart ever created, Emanuel Schikaneder’s libretto tells a thrilling love story full of plot twists, drama and wit. Famous arias such as ›Der Vogelfänger bin ich ja / The birdcatcher am I indeed‹, ›Dies Bildnis ist bezaubernd schön / This portrait is enchantingly beautiful‹, ›Ein Mädchen oder Weibchen / A girl or a woman‹ or ›Der Hölle Rache kocht in meinem Herzen / Hell’s vengeance boils in my heart‹ have become timeless hits and are today synonymous with Mozart’s operatic oeuvre.
