Artistic Director

Mark Scheibe

Born in Bremen in 1968, the composer, pianist, performer, songwriter and author Mark Scheibe co-founded the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen’s Echo Klassic award-winning educational project ›Melodie des Lebens‹ almost 20 years ago and has played a key role in shaping it ever since. Beyond this, he is involved in many events that bring together high culture and revue including the late-night show ›Wunderhorn‹ at the Berlin Staatsoper and the Berlin Revue at the Admiralspalast. In this vein, he has composed for the Filmorchester Babelsberg and the Staatskapelle Berlin, amongst others. For the Freiburg Theatre, Scheibe created the youth opera ›Zeitgeisterbahn‹ and for the Berlin Volksbühne he arranged Heiner Müller’s spectacle ›Germania‹ for orchestra and choir.

At the end of February 2020, the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg performed Mark Scheibe’s commissioned work ›Eine Deutschland-Sinfonie‹ for orchestra and three opera singers. The Babylon Orchester Berlin performed its musical adaptation of the silent film ›Dr. Mabuse – der Spieler‹ which runs for several hours. In addition to his wide-ranging activities on stage, Mark Scheibe also provided the musical accompaniment for the RBB television chat show ›Thadeus und die Künstler*‹ and accompanied 40 episodes of the programme ›Extra 3‹. As a solo artist and singer, this versatile performer has so far released three albums of contemporary jazz chansons. For several years now, he has also been writing the weekly zeitgeist column ›sonntagskind.blog‹.
