Sarah Christian

Violin · concertmaster

Born in Augsburg in 1990, Sarah Christian took her degree at the Mozarteum in Salzburg aged 20, before going on to study with Antje Weithaas at the Hanns Eisler Music College in Berlin, where she herself also taught between 2013 and 2016. A series of masterclasses with – among others – Thomas Brandis, Donald Weilerstein and Miriam Fried formed key impulses in shaping this violinist’s career. She has been concertmaster with The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen since 2013.

This outstanding musician and sought-after soloist has already collaborated with many renowned conductors and orchestras such as the German Symphony Orchestra Berlin, the BBC Symphony Orchestra and the Kammerakademie Potsdam. Where possible, Ms Christian takes advantage of the opportunity to lead from the orchestra herself. In addition to her many successes on stages across Europe, China, Japan, South America and the United States, Sarah Christian is the winner of numerous competitions. She has been awarded the Yehudi Menuhin Medal and the Szymon Goldberg Medal and, most recently, she received 2nd Prize at the 2017 ARD Music Competition – a year in which the 1st Prize was not awarded. Sarah Christian also plays chamber music at the highest level and has performed at a number of festivals such as the Schleswig Holstein Music Festival, the Spannungen Festival in Heimbach and the Schwetzinger Festivals. In 2015, she led the first ever ›Freistil‹ chamber music series in Augsburg; a series which she had initiated herself.

In her free time, Sarah Christian likes doing sports, loves fine dining at home or at a good restaurant, reads everything and anything and enjoys spending time with her friends. She also has strong ties to her Bavarian roots and trips to the lakes or the mountains come right at the top of her list.
