| The Estonian star conductor Paavo Järvi has been Artistic Director of The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen since 2004. His contract, which was originally negotiated for three years, was just extended to the end of 2008, with the option to extend it further. This is an indication of a particularly happy and successful musical collaboration, which is substantiated by numerous rave reviews from critics.
Paavo Järvi studied at the Curtis Institute of Music and the Los Angeles Philharmonic Institute with Leonard Bernstein. He has been Music Director of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra since 2001 and is also Artistic Advisor of the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra and Chief Conductor of the Hessian Radio Symphony Orchestra in Frankfurt. Paavo Järvi has just been appointed Music Director of the prestigious Orchestre de Paris beginning with the 2010-2011 season. There he will succeed such distinguished conductors as Christoph Eschenbach, Herbert von Karajan, Sir Georg Solti, and Daniel Barenboim.
Paavo Järvi has long been one of the most sought-after conductors worldwide and appears as a guest with the most celebrated orchestras, including the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam, the Orchestre de Paris, the Cleveland Orchestra, the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the NHK Symphony Orchestra in Tokyo, the NDR Symphony Orchestra in Hamburg, the Dresden Staatskapelle, and the Munich Philharmonic.
Following the successful start of his collaboration with The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen as Artistic Director in 2004, Paavo Järvi and his orchestra achieved great triumphs in 2005 as well. Their tours to the US, Canada, and the Baltic States were met with sold-out concert halls, enthusiastic audiences, and glowing reviews. After their appearance at the International Beethovenfest in Bonn following the tour, their interpretation of Beethoven's First Symphony was praised as a »Formula 1 version of the work« whose details, despite the breathtaking pace, »were meticulously worked out down to the secondary voices.«
Paavo Järvi and The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen have begun recording Ludwig van Beethoven's complete symphonies on CD/SACD. Their two previous recordings of chamber orchestra works by Igor Stravinsky and Richard Strauss were released to international critical acclaim.
