German Record Critics' Annual Award

Highest Accolade for Paavo Järvi and The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen

Beethoven CD wins the German Record Critics' Annual Award

The first SACD of The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen's Beethoven cycle with Paavo Järvi, featuring Symphonies No. 3 and 8, has won the German Record Critics' Annual Award for 2007.

This award is particularly significant because of the independence of the jury, comprised of leading German music critics, and is considered the most prestigious award for sound recordings in the German-speaking world.

In its explanatory statement, the jury wrote:
»This SACD production, the first of a new complete cycle, clearly stands out from the wealth of recordings of Beethoven symphonies. Under its conductor Paavo Järvi, the playing of The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen sounds both historically informed and modern - exciting, lean, full of life. In its transparency and brilliant power, its chamber music-like sophistication, and its analytical and emotional balance, this recording is as original as it is thrilling. The coherence of the articulation and the resoluteness with which the musicians explore Beethoven's contrasting worlds compel the listener to remain constantly alert. The tempi, based on Beethoven's original metronome markings, lend further authenticity to this recording.«
