|The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen Wins the German Founders Award (Deutscher Gründerpreis)|
The jury of the German Founders Award has presented The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen with the German Founders Award 2008 in the category Special Award for its successful combination of entrepreneurship and culture.
Managing Director Albert Schmitt accepted the prestigious award in Berlin in the presence of Federal Minister of Economics and Technology Michael Glos on Tuesday, 17 June. There are no applications for this important award for outstanding entrepreneurs in Germany; candidates are selected by the experts of the German Founders Award, which is offered by the television station ZDF, the magazine Stern, Porsche, and the Sparkasse savings bank group. »The nomination was a great surprise to us, and winning the German Founders Award pleased us all the more,« says Albert Schmitt. »It is a great honor when such a distinguished jury notices us. This award is a very positive contribution to the orchestra's development, which, after the successes of the past few years, will certainly start another upward spiral. We are delighted about it.«
Successful Combination of Entrepreneurship and Culture
The unusual and extremely successful combination of entrepreneurship and culture that The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen has developed was decisive for the jury. The Kammerphilharmonie is an internationally renowned, top-ranking orchestra, which also undertakes musical projects with young people in a deprived area. Noteworthy as well are the orchestra's professional management with a systematic brand strategy and the innovative 5 Seconds Model, a unique management training program for top executives in high-performance teams, which the orchestra has developed in collaboration with the Saarbrücken personnel expert, Professor Christian Scholz, and successfully established in the market.

From Insiders' Tip to World Leader
During its 28-year history, the orchestra has already blossomed from an insiders' tip into an internationally acclaimed world leader. That has been possible, in particular, »because the musicians live their passion for music at every rehearsal and every concert, whether they are in Bremen, Tokyo, or New York. At every appearance, what matters most is to achieve the best musical result possible,« explains Albert Schmitt. The orchestra's Beethoven interpretations with its Artistic Director, Paavo Järvi, are now regarded as the worldwide standard for the twenty-first century. The New York Sun praised the ensemble as »the authoritative Beethoven orchestra of our day.« The orchestra's decision to move its rehearsal space, including a recording studio, to the Gesamtschule Bremen-Ost last year attracted a great deal of attention. World-class cultural productions, social commitment in a problem area of the city, educational work, and overall social integration are combined there in pioneering projects. Berlin's Tagesspiegel summed it up perfectly with the words »Elite goes social.«
With the presentation of the German Founders Award, the orchestra's musical, educational, and social efforts and successes have been recognized in equal measure.
