| Wind Soloists of the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen | |||||||
| »(...) once regarded as a choice personal tip, the ensemble now ranks with the crème de la crème among wind ensembles. Numerous awards, such as the German Record Critics' Award, testify to the exceptional standard of this group. The ensemble (...) guarantees musical suppleness just as it demonstrates a sensitive artistic understanding of orchestral sonority.« Amberger Zeitung 7 October 2000/ H. Fischer Beginnings The wind soloists of the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen came together early in 1990. In addition to their orchestral activities, the musicians, who have won awards at numerous prestigious international competitions, also devote themselves to chamber music for wind instruments from Baroque to contemporary music. Repertoire Along with the diverse classical repertoire, they play virtuoso wind arrangements by Andreas N. Tarkmann. He has adapted works such as Mussorgsky's ›Pictures at an Exhibition‹, Tchaikovsky's ›Nutcracker‹ and Smetana's ›The Bartered Bride‹ and has created the fantastic wind version of Felix Mendelssohn's ›A Midsummer Night's Dream‹. Engagements The ensemble has appeared at venues such as Frankfurt's Alte Oper, the Herkulessaal in Munich, London's Queen Elizabeth Hall, the Berlin Philharmonie, the Mozart Festival in Prague, the Lucerne Festival and the Rheingau Music Festival. In 2002 the wind soloists were invited for a return engagement at the Rheingau Music Festival and at the MDR Music Summer. In July 2002 they toured in Japan, performing the wind ensemble music from ›Don Giovanni‹ in combination with a narrator and a Japanese puppet theater. CDs In addition to radio and television productions, the ensemble has recorded numerous CDs, including a recording of Dvorák's ›Serenade‹ and Mussorgsky's ›Pictures at an Exhibition‹. The wind soloists received the Echo Klassik award in 1998 for their recording of original compositions by Franz Schubert and Carl Maria von Weber as well as Tarkmann's arrangement of ›A Midsummer Night's Dream‹. The CD ›Böhmische Serenade‹ [Bohemian Serenade], with works by Bedrich Smetana, Josef Triebensee and Franz Krommer, was released in June 2001. A recording entitled ›Schauplatz Sevilla‹ [Seville Scene], a compilation of wind ensemble music from operas set in Seville, will be released in March of this year. | New on CD: W. A.
