| Deutsche Welle: ›The Beethoven Project‹ to premier in autumn 2010 Deutsche Welle presented the musical documentary film The Beethoven Project for more than 400 guests at Kino International in Berlin on Wednesday, 8 September 2010. In the spot light: The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen and conductor Paavo Järvi. Under the direction of DW-TV, Germany's international broadcaster, all nine symphonies of Ludwig van Beethoven were recorded in Bonn, Germany, from September 9-12, 2009. These live recordings were used to create the documentary film ›The Beethoven Project - A Music Documentary with Paavo Järvi and The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen‹ directed by Christian Berger. The film is set to be broadcast worldwide on DW-TV in October 2010 in German, English, Spanish and Arabic. Broadcasting hours The music documentary will also be available as video-on-demand from the Deutsche Welle website, www.dw-world.de. In addition, the music documentary and all nine live concert recordings will be released on DVD in September 2010. ›The Beethoven Project‹ is a production by Deutsche Welle and Unitel Classica in collaboration with The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen and the Beethovenfest Bonn. The DVD box is being published by Sony Music. Two international film festivals presented The Beethoven Project during summer 2010. The documentary was shown as part of the official program at both the Rhode Island International Film Festival (RIIFF) (www.film-festival.org) in the USA and the Montreal World Film Festival / Festival des Films du Monde (FFM) (www.ffm-montreal.org) in Canada. The Beethoven Project received the award for Best Soundtrack at the Rhode Island International Film Festival on 15 August. The Montreal World Film Festival, which took place from 26 August to 6 September 2010, is the only competitive film festival in North America accredited in category A by the Fédération Internationale des Associations de Producteurs de Films [International Federation of Film Producers Associations] (FIAPF). »The film also reaches out to audiences that may be less interested in classical music,« says Rolf Rische, Department Director at DW-TV. »The extraordinarily high aesthetic and technical quality of the production makes it all possible. It's informative, ambitious and entertaining.« How is the orchestra able to present the Beethoven cycle at such a consistently high level in just four days? How is the unique sound produced from the most »authoritative Beethoven orchestra of our day« (›The New York Sun‹)? What message does Beethoven's music have for the 21st Century? The music documentary ›The Beethoven Project‹ answers these and other questions in 93 minutes: A conductor, an orchestra, Beethoven and his music. The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen's 40 musicians are part of what is perhaps Germany's most unusual orchestra. As musicians, they are top class; as shareholders in the ›Orchester GmbH‹, they jointly share the risks. Their vision does not end with the applause after a concert. The musicians have a social responsibility and pass on their passion for music to high school students in Bremen. Using the Beethoven cycle, the music documentary illustrates how The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen works together and what the distinctive features are of this outstanding collection of musicians. ›The Beethoven Project‹ documents the timeless power and extraordinary importance of the works of Ludwig van Beethoven and illustrates the fascination of classical music. Director Christian Berger's production team accompanied the conductor and the orchestra for weeks with scenes filmed in Bonn, Bremen and Järvi's birthplace of Tallinn, Estonia. Rolf Rische was the commissioning editor of ›The Beethoven Project‹. He is also known for his involvement in the award-winning music documentaries ›Kent Nagano Conducts Classical Masterpieces‹ and ›The Promise of Music‹. Christian Kurt Weisz was the video director of the live concert recordings. The documentary and the concert recordings were produced by Bernhard Fleischer Moving Images, Salzburg, on behalf of Deutsche Welle. | Paavo Järvi Photo: Detmar Schmoll Paavo Järvi Photo: Detmar Schmoll Musicians of The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, Bonn September 2009 | ||||||
