 | The appointment of Paavo Järvi as Artistic Director of the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen shows the determination of the orchestra to establish its reputation, which has already been well earnt in recent years. Under Daniel Harding, who was Musical Director of the ensemble from 1999 to 2003, the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen has proved itself amongst public, critics and promotors alike as one of the leading chamber orchestras worldwide. Paavo Järvi, with whom the orchestra has played on a number of highly successful occasions, is the ideal conducting personality to bring about this seamless transition. In addition, through this new collaboration with the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, Paavo Järvi has committed to an exclusive agreement for chamber music. Estonian-born, Paavo Järvi moved to the USA in 1980 where he studied at the Curtis Institute of Music and at the Los Angeles Philharmonic Institute with Leonard Bernstein. As a patron and ambassador of Estonian music he works regularly with the Estonian National Orchestra and champions the works of composers from his homeland such as Arvo Pärt, Erkki Sven Tüür and Eduard Tubin. He was appointed Music Director of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra in September 2001 and has recently extended his contract with the orchestra until 2006/07. »Paavo Järvi has proven to be the best catch of the recent trawling for conductors by major American orchestras. While audiences in New York and Cleveland have been disappointed, those in Philadelphia uneasy, and Boston just impatient, the residents of Cincinnati have taken great pride and pleasure in welcoming such a dynamic and results-oriented maestro to their oldest symphony hall in the nation«, so wrote ConcertoNet.com. Alongside positions held as Principal Guest Conductor of the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic and the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Paavo Järvi has worked with nearly all the leading orchestras throughout the world.
