| Following his studies in his native city of Milan and in Geneva, Giovanni Antonini founded the ensemble Il Giardino Armonico, with which he has been appearing since 1989 as soloist and conductor at the most important festivals in Europe, the US, Canada, South America, Japan, and Malaysia. Together with the ensemble he has worked with artists such as Viktoria Mullova, Eva Mei, Pieter Wispelwey, Christoph Prégardien, and Cecilia Bartoli. He has conducted operas and oratorios at the Salzburg Festival, the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris, in Zürich, Amsterdam, Lisbon, and at several Spanish theaters. In addition, he is a frequent guest conductor with celebrated orchestras such as the Berlin Philharmonic, the Camerata Academica Salzburg, the Basel Chamber Orchestra, and the Copenhagen Philharmonic Orchestra. His numerous recordings of instrumental music of the Baroque period have won awards, including the Echo Classic and Diapason d'Or. Giovanni Antonini received a Grammy Award in 2000 as conductor of the 'Vivaldi Album' with Cecilia Bartoli. During his first collaboration with The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen in 2004 the chemistry was right from the start. The orchestra is looking forward to his second guest conducting appearance with great anticipation. (Photo: Uwe Arens) | |
