| Their fascination lies in the interplay - based on the Italian concerto grosso, Bach's Brandenburg Concertos represent the new music for full orchestra. They are still linked to chamber music, play virtuosically with instrumentation and harmonic color, and merge solos and accompaniment. Beethoven's Violin Concerto is not mastered with technical proficiency alone - the soloist's musical qualities are called for. Thus, this masterwork of the genre is both a challenge and a calling card for every generation of violinists. Schubert's Third Symphony is sometimes compared with Beethoven's Pastorale. Motifs of nature encounter poetry and bright transparency. The young, extremely productive song composer found the way to his own symphonic sound only after experimenting with the large form.
