What brought you to music, and why do you play your instrument?

My mother brought me to music. Since she loves music very much and plays an instrument herself, she made certain that all her children learned to play an instrument. But I don't think she was particularly enthusiastic about the instrument I chose. That is why she tried (fortunately without success) to convince our dentist, the local trumpet teacher, and me that I was still too young.

The structure of the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen is different than in traditional orchestras. What are the advantages?

I think the main advantage is the fact that the responsibility and creative opportunities are very great for each individual musician. As a result, the musicians can identify much more with what they do.

What was your most memorable experience in the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen?

The last concert of the 2001 Japanese tour in Kita Kyushu. After the performance of a Brahms symphony, a group of audience members formed a corridor from the dressing rooms to the orchestra bus through which the musicians could walk, accompanied by applause.

How do you feel in Bremen?

Before I moved to Bremen, many of my friends said that, as a south German, I would probably never feel at home in northern Germany. I have lived in Bremen for several years now and must say that they were mistaken. I bought myself a city guide and conduct private tours of the city for my friends from the south when they come to visit me.
