| Olari Elts makes his debut with The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen this season. In its review of his appearance with the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin in 2003, Der Tagesspiegel wrote, "Elts sharply outlines the polarity between chaotic forces and crystalline transcendence. Free of mist and brooding sultriness, [Mahler's] First Symphony develops its tremendous strength in clarity, without displays of irony or demonstrations of fragility. A triumph of music; cheers for Olari Elts and the DSO." During the previous season Olari Elts conducted the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Komische Oper Berlin, and the London Sinfonietta and made his US debut with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. Since 2001 he has been Principal Conductor of the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra, with which he has achieved great success. Olari Elts frequently conducts opera as well and will appear with the Estonian National Opera in 2006. Born in Tallinn in 1971, he won first prize at the International Sibelius Conductors' Competition in May 2000 and at the Jorma Panula Conductors' Competition in Finland in 1999. In 2001 Olari Elts was awarded the Order of the White Star (IVth Class) by his native Estonia, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to music. In addition to Paavo Järvi and conductor Anu Tali, who stepped in for Järvi last year, with Olari Elts The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen is strengthening its close ties with Estonia, land of music. | |
