 | With three concerts on two days, the ensemble impressively demonstrated that Bremen currently sets the standard for chamber orchestras worldwide.
Together with superstar Hélène Grimaud, they delighted listeners with works by Bach and Beethoven, performed without a conductor. Two days earlier, the orchestra and its Artistic Director, Paavo Järvi, literally electrified the discriminating New York audience with two concerts on one evening.
Public awareness of Bremen has increased even more as a result of The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen's orchestra in residence status. Senator for Economic Affairs and Ports Ralf Nagel took the opportunity to host a reception to attract supporters and investors for the Free Hanseatic City. Guests included the distinguished historian and author Fritz Stern, the German Ambassador to the United Nations, Thomas Matussek, and the German Consul General in New York, Horst Freitag.
Senator Nagel found the concerts »extraordinarily brilliant. Naturally, we must take advantage of such opportunities to present our city as a world leader. If an event is as impressive as this evening, when the audience acclaimed our Bremen orchestra with standing ovations, it is also a great success for Bremen.« The New York Times critic wrote that »Paavo Järvi and The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen kept the hall rocking until midnight.«
