 | How did you come to the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen?
During my studies in Vienna, I became a member of the Vienna Chamber Orchestra, so I had the appropriate experience. I would have preferred playing professionally in a string quartet. For want of the right situation, I considered applying for orchestra positions. Then, in 1986, the news of the founding of a new chamber orchestra in Frankfurt by presumably like-minded young colleagues came at just the right moment.
How are you musically active in addition to the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen?
In chamber music, of course, in our series with Radio Bremen, and as a member of Ensemble Lesmona. Since Daniel Harding's tenure as our Music Director and, even more so, with Paavo Järvi, I have been fascinated by what a really good conductor is capable of achieving. That resulted in the desire to learn something about it myself. I began attending conducting courses in 2005 and taking lessons regularly. In spring of 2007, I had the good fortune to be able to take over conducting duties with an excellent amateur orchestra, the Camerata Instrumentale Bremen-Nord. In 2009 I began conducting at the children's music camp of Jeunesse Austria. Once a year I teach a chamber music course for school children and another for lay persons.

 | What is special about this orchestra?
The expectation of each individual to take responsibility for the whole, as in chamber music. The joint development over a long period time, which naturally results in a common musical language, but also, after many positive and negative experiences, a respectful, even friendly interaction with each other.
What do you do when you are not making music?
I have been running regularly for several years, at home and on the road, which makes the unhealthy situation of touring much more tolerable. In the meantime, I have participated in several marathons. Otherwise, I enjoy being at home with my family - making breakfast for the schoolchildren, baking bread, shopping. Office work requires a lot of my time as a self-employed ›entrepreneur‹ and financially accountable head of the family enterprise.
