| What brought you to music, and why do you play your instrument? I heard BBC radio 3 practically 24 hours a day as a child because of my very enthusiastic music loving parents. I started to play the Flugel Horn in my school brass band and then changed to trumpet a few years later to join Stockport Youth Orchestra. How did you come to the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen? I had lived in Berlin for a couple of years after finishing studying in Scotland and had been asked to play as an extra with the DDKB, but because of other commitments, never managed to. Then in 2000 the orchestra created a trumpet position which I applied for and won the job! The structure of the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen is different than in traditional orchestras. What are the advantages? The possibility to have some influence. Which of the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen's CDs do you like best, and why? Kurt Weill, because the result was a very pleasant surprise! | ![]() Christopher Dicken, Trumpet (Photo: Eberhard Hirsch) | ||||||
| What has changed for you as a result of the move to the new space in the Gesamtschule-Ost? We are so lucky to habe such a fantastic hall. I still have to get used to the longer trip to get there! How are you musically active in addition to the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen? As the trumpets are not needed in every project, I have time do do a lot of other things. One of which is my brass ensemble, World Brass (www.worldbrass.com). We've been together since 1995. What do you do when you are not making music? Cooking and trying to make perfect cappuccinos! Oh, and I still listen to BBC Radio 3 on my laptop. | |||||||
