 | What brought you to music, and why do you play your instrument?
When I was about nine years old, my aunt took me along to Freischütz, a production at the Eutin open-air theater. I was extremely fascinated, and after that I wanted to hear other operas. My high school music teacher introduced me to the viola, probably because he needed new players for the school orchestra. I actually wanted to learn to play the guitar, but he said it was not a ›proper‹ instrument.
What do you do when you are not making music?
I have been studying musicology in Cologne for two years, with interruptions, of course. That was the best decision I have made since I decided to become a member of the Chamber Orchestra of the Young German Philharmonic (the precursor of The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen)!
How do you feel in Bremen?
Like a convinced Northerner - born in Kiel, raised in Wilhelmshaven - I feel like I am in the right place. Although I have to take the train from Bonn every time, it is the right direction!
